| Heywood Rural Health
is a small rural public hospital and aged care facility, which
provides a range of bed based, primary care and allied care
services to the Heywood Community.
Heywood Rural Health is a registered public hospital under
the Health Services Act (1988) and is named in Schedule 1
of the Act as a Victorian Public Hospital.

The Hospital is governed by a (Volunteer) Board of Management
who are appointed on a triennial basis by the Governor In
Council (Victorian Minister for Health).
Heywood Rural Health employs approximately
100 people:
Our workforce is made up of mostly part time & casual
staff.

between 50 & 60.

Area/Population/Demographics:
Heywood is located in the Glenelg Shire which covers an area
of approximately 600,000 hectares.
The majority of the Shire’s population of 22,000
people live in the main centres of Portland, Heywood and
Casterton.
The SLA (Statistical Local Area) of Heywood has a population
of 6,022 (1996 ABS).
The population of the Heywood catchment area is becoming
increasingly older.
The local area has a significant Koori population. The
Lake Condah Koori mission is situated close to Heywood and
the Winda-Mara Aboriginal Co-operative is also located in
Heywood.
